Shalimar Eau de Parfum ? Guerlain, created in 1925 by Jacques Guerlain. A women’s fragrance. Guerlain calls it “the first amber perfume in history,” and it marks its centenary in 2025. The house ties the fragrance to the love story of the Emperor Shah Jahan and Princess Mumtaz Mahal; the name means “temple of love” in Sanskrit. The bottle was designed by Raymond Guerlain and won first prize at the 1925 Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition ? its curves echo the Shalimar Gardens in Kashmir and the fan-shaped stopper evokes the gardens’ fountains. The signature is quintessentially Guerlinade, the house accord of iris, jasmine, bergamot, rose, vanilla and tonka bean, with vanilla as its most emblematic material. Guerlain rates the Eau de Parfum’s intensity as strong. Shalimar is also offered as an Eau de Toilette, as L’Essence Eau de Parfum Intense, and as an Extract, plus refills and body products.
