Lalique Encre Noire

Description

Eau de Toilette from Lalique. Lalique dates it to 2007 (Basenotes’ directory lists 2006 ? use Lalique’s own date on camera). Perfumer: Nathalie Lorson of Firmenich. A men’s fragrance in Lalique’s own categorization, and a modern vetiver reference. Drydown: cashmere wood, musks. Lalique’s own line for it: “An iconic black bottle, showcasing dark, woody vetyver, the most sophisticated masculine note.” Staff note: “Bourbon vetiver” is a growing-origin designation, not a whiskey reference ? it refers to ?le Bourbon, the island now called La R?union, where the variety was historically cultivated; it has nothing to do with bourbon whiskey and should never be described that way to a customer. The bottle, with its dark textured stopper, was inspired by Ren? Lalique’s 1913 “Biches” inkwell, and it is handcrafted in France. The name means “black ink.” The line went on to include Encre Noire pour Elle (2009, Christine Nagel), Encre Noire Sport (2013, Nathalie Lorson) and Encre Noire ? l’Extr?me (2015, Nathalie Lorson); Lalique later released Encre Indigo (Eau de Parfum, 17 October 2023, Annick Menardo), which the house presents as a sequel to Encre Noire rather than a flanker.
