Extrait de Parfum from Mind Games, launched 2022. Perfumer: David Apel. Part of the Artisan Collection. Unisex. The house classifies it as chypre-floral-tobacco. An effervescent burst of champagne opens it, a fruity-floral heart built on three distinct roses and magnolia carries the middle, and a tobacco-and-bourbon drydown lands on earthy tree moss and patchouli. Apel describes the intent plainly: “Tobacco has such a multi-faceted, addictive scent… Checkmate captures that experience, constructed in a sophisticated fashion.” Mind Games was founded by Alex and Mariana Shalbaf and composes its extraits with the fragrance house Symrise; the Artisan Collection is the brand’s bold, niche unisex line, each scent built around a chess move. Sold in 100ml with a 2ml sample; a standalone 2ml vial is also available.
