Eau de Parfum from Valentino, the women’s flagship of the Born in Roma line. Valentino classifies it as amber floral (its international site says “modern haute couture floriental”). The house sells it on a deliberately compressed three-note pyramid and calls it “an ambery fragrance modernised with a woody overdose,” describing “a couture elegance made Sambac Jasmine to bring a luxurious femininity when blended with Vanilla Bourbon, the most expensive extract in the world.” The flacon “pays tribute to the iconic Valentino Rockstud,” an “edgy pyramidal design, inspired by Roman architecture,” finished in black leather with vivid pink; the 10 ml ships in a pink rubber travel sleeve. Notes for staff: Valentino publishes NO launch year and credits NO perfumer, and no authorized retailer does either ? neither is claimed here. The house’s own two sites give different pyramids: the beauty site publishes the jasmine/cashmeran/vanilla trio above, while valentino.com describes a bergamot opening, a “trilogy of jasmine” heart and a modern-woods base. Both are house copy; the beauty-site trio is used and the two should not be merged. The vanilla bourbon is Bourbon VANILLA, the ?le Bourbon varietal ? not whiskey. Note on naming: the catalog uses Valentino [Donna|Uomo] Born in Roma [flanker]. Valentino itself is inconsistent ? valentino-beauty.us writes “Born in Roma Donna Eau de Parfum” with the side after Born in Roma, valentino.com drops Donna/Uomo entirely for “For Her”/”For Him” and capitalises “In”, and US retailers put Donna/Uomo first. One house convention does not exist, so the catalog imposes its own.
